Alexander Isak just broke an 11 year Newcastle record vs Everton tonight

There has been an awful lot of talk surrounding Alexander Isak of late.

The Newcastle striker has been linked with big moves to the likes of Arsenal having hit the ground running in the Premier League since joining the club.

Isak has proven an excellent signing for the club, even if injury issues have been a feature of his first two season at St James’ Park.

As such and despite the number of links with a move away, Eddie Howe is reportedly looking to build his team around the 24-year-old.

The Swede followed up his two goals against West Ham on Saturday with a fine strike against Everton on Tuesday night and duly wrote his name into the history books on Tyneside.

Indeed, by opening the scoring against Everton (and beating a certain Jordan Pickford, no less), Isak actually became the first Newcastle player to score in five consecutive home Premier League games since Yoann Gouffran 11 years ago.

Alexander Isak is the player Newcastle need to build around

It’s fantastic to hear Howe is looking to build around Isak.

With Bruno Guimaraes consistently linked away and Sven Botman facing a long road back to recovery following his second serious knee injury of the season, Isak is arguably the one remaining elite player Newcastle have on offer.

Such has been the conviction of his form since joining Newcastle, it’s of little surprise that there may be interest from elsewhere.

Still, finding a player capable of such brilliance at the highest of levels would be some task. Strikers generally cost the most money to sign too, so any fee received for him would surely then just have to go on a replacement anyway.

A fit and firing Isak provides so many reasons to be optimistic for Newcastle.
