'He was outstanding': Ange Postecoglou so impressed by £25m Tottenham player against West Ham

Ange Postecoglou has named the Tottenham Hotspur player who he thought was outstanding in their draw with West Ham United on Tuesday night.

Spurs missed the chance to move up into fourth spot in the Premier League. An early Brennan Johnson goal was cancelled out by Kurt Zouma scoring from a set-piece before the break.

It was a hard-fought contest which took on a frenetic energy in the final minutes as both teams pushed for a winner. But ultimately, they both lacked quality in the final third at the London Stadium.

Zouma was named as the player of the match as he helped the Hammers handle the attacking threat Tottenham possess.

But it seems that it was another player who really caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking to Match of the Day after the full-time whistle, the Tottenham boss suggested that he was hugely impressed by Yves Bissouma in the draw.

“I thought he was outstanding. Yves did the defensive work which was always going to be important today. The general effort from the lads was strong. It’s a tough place to come,” he said.

“There’s a lot of games to go still. I will be very surprised if all games aren’t tight. Everyone is fighting for something. We have to maintain our levels.”

Back to something like his best

Bissouma was certainly prepared to get stuck in, which was particularly important with West Ham looking to hurt Spurs on the counter.

He made two interceptions, according to Whoscored. No one on either side managed more. And he was so assured in possession.

Bissouma led the way for completed passes, finding a teammate 91 times from 95 passes. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were the only players within 30 of the £25 million Mali international.

Bissouma has come in for a little criticism more recently after an outstanding start to the season in North London.

But clearly, Postecoglou felt that he was much more like his old self against the Irons.
