'At any moment': Joleon Lescott says Newcastle have three players who'll be 'devastating' when together

Newcastle United’s defence remains a problem.

While they limited Everton to only three shots on target during the Premier League clash at St James’ Park, Newcastle proved architects of their own downfall again.

Indeed, Paul Dummett’s challenge on Ashley Young was, shall we say, the sign of a defender who has not played in a while.

Still, as disappointing as dropping two points at home was, there were positives.

Alexander Isak continued in his fine form and actually broke an 11-year club record.

The Sweden international became the first player since Yoan Gouffran in 2013 to score in five successive home Premier League games for Newcastle.

Where it was Isak who teed up Harvey Barnes on Saturday against West Ham, the winger turned provider for the striker on Tuesday night.

It’s promising to see the two continue to build up a partnership and, more excitingly, Anthony Gordon is due back against Fulham following his suspension for the Everton game.

In fact, TNT Sports pundit Joleon Lescott believes the trio can still have a big impact this season.

Joleon Lescott names the three “devastating” players Newcastle have right now

Reflecting on the game at full-time, Lescott told TNT Sports: “He’ll [Eddie Howe] be disappointed with the result obviously but thinking forward, Anthony Gordon is back for the next game and that’ll be a very devastating attack.

“Barnes, Gordon and Isak can create and score goals at any moment.”

Newcastle’s firepower is their saving grace this season

Newcastle’s defending this season has left a lot to be desired, that much is clear.

Still, it’s worth noting just how good their attacking line has been, even despite Barnes, Isak and Callum Wilson all missing much of the campaign due to injury.

Only title-chasing Arsenal and Liverpool have scored more than Newcastle’s 64 goals this season. It’s even more than Manchester City, albeit they have currently played one fewer game.

Injuries have robbed us of seeing Barnes, Isak and Gordon line up regularly but the early signs look as if they can be a frontline to be reckoned with.
