'It's not true': 25-year-old's father strongly denies he was a failure at Chelsea

Over the last few years, Chelsea have made a lot of big money signings.

For example, in 2023, Chelsea brought the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer to the club.

In transfer windows before that year, the Blues signed Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic to list a few more names.

Some of their past expensive additions, though, were not exactly successes at Stamford Bridge.

The father of one former Chelsea player who left the club last summer, however, is refusing to describe his son’s time in west London as a failure.

Former Chelsea star did not disappoint at Stamford Bridge according to father

Chelsea won the Champions League back in the 2020/21 season, with Havertz, Werner and Pulisic all playing their part.

Havertz was, of course, the man who scored the Blues’ winning goal in the final against Manchester City, while Werner and Pulisic netted in the semi-finals versus Real Madrid.

Since then, all three players have left the club, with Pulisic joining AC Milan after making just eight starts in the Premier League last season.

The American struggled to tie down a first-team spot during his time at Chelsea, but his father Mark Pulisic says he was not a disappointment there.

“For me it’s not true that Christian disappointed at Chelsea,” Pulisic senior was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He simply didn’t play regularly.

“For me he is now reaching his peak, he is 25 years old, he works hard to develop his game and is respected by his teammates.”

The USA international picked up a lot of injuries when he was a Chelsea player but has managed to stay fit at Milan this season, recently explaining why.

Was Christian Pulisic a disappointment at Chelsea?

Honestly, you can make an argument for it. After all, the club paid £58m for the winger, who was one of the most exciting young talents in the world at the time, but he was never a consistent player for them.

Again, as mentioned earlier, Pulisic struggled to stay fit at Chelsea, which never helped.

However, at the end of the day, the Stamford Bridge faithful would have still been expecting a bit more from an attacker who cost almost £60m.

Pulisic was not a terrible signing, though. His contribution to the club’s second Champions League triumph in their history should not be forgotten. But the USA star certainly did not fulfil his potential in west London.
