'I would like to see change': Kompany left fuming at one incident during Wolves' draw with Burnley

Wolves were forced to settle for a draw against Burnley on Tuesday night, leaving Vincent Kompany unhappy with one key decision from the match.

It was a difficult night for Wolves at Turf Moor on Tuesday, as the Old Gold battled for a 1-1 draw after going behind to Burnley.

The relegation-threatened side gave the Midlands club a difficult challenge to overcome as they took the lead in the first half through Jacob Bruun Larsen.

A free kick courtesy of Pablo Sarabia set up the in-form Rayan Ait-Nouri to give the visitors the decisive equaliser before halftime, a goal that saw the points shared after 90 minutes.

Given their current injury crisis, Wolves will arguably walk away from the fixture more content with the result as Burnley continue to fight for their lives at the bottom.

While Wolves will be somewhat okay with the result, Burnley were left feeling jaded due to their current position in the table and the way in which the Old Gold levelled the scoring.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the fixture, Vincent Kompany expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Ait-Nouri’s goal came about, disagreeing with Tom Bramall’s decision to award Wolves a free kick.

“We’re not in control of every key moment. I hope that no one will show the goal we conceded without showing the phase that leads up to the goal.”

“You know where a player just falls to the floor because he’s out of balance, he brought himself out of balance.”

“The referee is in the best position ever, you couldn’t be in a better position. He doesn’t spot it, he gives a foul against us.”

“It’s an unfortunate trend that in a very calm way I would like to see change, it’s just too much.”

Kompany’s anger was directed at his belief that Ait-Nouri lost balance and fell to the ground by his own doing, despite the contact between Dara O’Shea and the Algerian being visible.

Wolves will be happy to take a draw from Burnley

Wolves themselves have come up against a host of horrendous decisions in the Premier League this season, many far beyond the severity of O’Shea’s penalisation for fouling Ait-Nouri.

The refereeing in the league has been extremely inconsistent this term, and while the free-kick eventually came at Burnley’s expense, the foul that happened as Ait-Nouri broke into the final third can’t be argued too heavily.

In many games that foul would have been given, and in some it would not, that is unfortunately the standard that Premier League clubs have had to battle all season.

It was a frustrating day at the office for both teams, making Kompany’s anger understandable considering the damning position of his Burnley side.
