'He is looking fit': Eddie Howe says 24-year-old Newcastle star should be delighted with his current form

Eddie Howe needs his best players to deliver if Newcastle United are going to qualify for Europe.

The Magpies have eight games remaining, and are still in the race to either qualify for the Europa League or Europa Conference League. They put another point on the board on Tuesday night, although there is a lot of frustration following the 1-1 draw with Everton.

It was a great opportunity to pick up another win after the victory over West Ham, and we certainly had enough chances to to put Everton away. But we did not take them, and were punished late on courtesy of a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty.

Now Newcastle will turn their attentions towards Fulham, who they take on at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The Magpies have beaten them twice already this season, and need to make it a hat-trick this weekend.

That will be tough, but one of Newcastle’s most important players is in fine form ahead of the game in West London.

Eddie Howe pleased to see Newcastle United striker playing so well right now

Following Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Everton, Eddie Howe spoke to NUFC TV about some positive aspects of the Magpies’ performance.

One of those was Alexander Isak, who opened the scoring in the 15th minute. It was another beautiful goal from the 24-year-old, who finished brilliantly after a clever pass from Harvey Barnes.

It was Isak’s eighth Premier League goal in his last nine appearance, and Howe is delighted to see him playing so well.

“He [Isak] is leading our line really well at the moment,” he said.

“He is looking fit, sharp, technically again he delivered in a really good performance. Took his goal excellently.

“He’s in a really good place. We hope he can stay there and keep producing moments of magic for us. He can be really pleased with his form.”

This is Alexander Isak’s best season ever

Isak scored his 19th goal of the season on Tuesday night, as he closes in on the 20-goal milestone. That is something he has never done in his career.

But even if Isak does not score again for the rest of the campaign, this has still been the best season of his career in front of goal.

His previous best tally was 17 during his second year with Real Sociedad, but he has eclipsed that in his second year as a Magpie.

Isak is scoring at an incredible rate, as he continues to prove why the comparisons to Thierry Henry are very accurate. And he also continues to prove why Howe is right to build his team around him.

The Swede is in amazing form right now, and long may it continue. There is even an outside chance of him winning the Premier League Golden Boot, with Isak currently three goals behind leader Erling Haaland.
