'Scores 30 goals easy': Man Utd now told signing 28-year-old star will make them instant title challengers

This summer should see Manchester United have a busy transfer window, now one player has been recommended.

This summer, it’s Ineos’ first summer transfer window and they will want to make their mark on Manchester United.

It’s expected that there will be a handful of arrivals, with new defenders, midfielders and attackers all required.

Up front, United are lacking as Rasmus Hojlund remains the only striker at Erik ten Hag‘s disposal, this leaves signing some support for him a priority.

But it may not be support that arrives, but rather some real world-class competition.

Now, United have been advised to make a move for a current Premier League star who could turn the Red Devils into title contenders.

Manchester United urged to make Ivan Toney signing

Ivan Toney is the signing many fans would want to see this summer, especially after he dominated United last weekend.

Now, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has shared his view with Sky Sports on who United should bring in.

Raving about Toney’s talents, he made the bold claim of how much this signing would improve the Old Trafford side.

“He turns Man United into a challenger for the Premier League. I think there are probably five clubs in the world that could end up buying him and he will improve any of those by a country mile.

“Put him in a Man United team, he scores 30 Premier League goals in his sleep.”

MacAnthony of course knows Toney well, having had him at Peterborough years ago. Ineos should take his advice and make Toney the summer attacking signing.

How Ivan Toney compares with Rasmus Hojlund

Toney, if signed, wouldn’t be arriving to sit on the bench but rather would likely take the mantle as starter from Hojlund.

The Dane has been impressive this calendar year but still has quite a bit of development to go through.

But how do the two compare with each other? Let’s take a look.

  • Goals: Toney 4 – 7 Hojlund
  • Assists: Toney 1 – 2 Hojlund
  • Games: Toney 11 – 21 Hojlund
  • Minutes: Toney 990 – 1,563 Hojlund
  • Shots per 90: Toney 3.36 – 1.73 Hojlund
  • Touches per 90: Toney 45.55 – 28.85 Hojlund
  • Duels won per 90: Toney 7.64 – 3.57 Hojlund

From these stats as per FotMob, it’s clear to see that Hojlund and Toney have very similar contribution levels when their minutes played are taken into account.

The argument of Toney playing for Brentford also doesn’t work as he is being handed more chances than Hojlund is.

But together, this could be a powerful striker group with both capable scoring and troubling defences at the highest level. This is an important thing for the new striker signing to be able to do, given the injury struggles this season.
