'Haven't got a clue': Neil Warnock fuming after what referee did to £37m Man United player recently

Neil Warnock has now admitted his fury at a decision given against a Manchester United player recently, a call he simply couldn’t understand.

It feels as if the last few weeks have been a perfect microcosm of the Erik ten Hag era at Old Trafford.

An excellent win and performance against Liverpool was followed up by a battering at Brentford, a game United were almost still able to win.

Of course, the only surprise amongst all of this has been Ten Hag’s admission that his team played poorly on the weekend, given he is usually so defiant even when it’s obvious.

And with games against Chelsea and Liverpool next, Ten Hag desperately needs his side to show some control, quality and consistency.

Otherwise, it feels difficult to imagine the Dutchman at the helm next season, even if his Ajax side were so impressive prior to his United arrival.

That all being said, Neil Warnock has been sharing his thoughts on Amad Diallo’s red card that he received after taking his shirt off when celebrating his winner against Liverpool before the break.

Neil Warnock furious with decision to send off Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Warnock felt as if the decision to send off the United youngster perfectly summarised the level of refereeing today.

He explained: “I know I get criticised and all that but you know when the young kid scored the winning goal in that time and the referee sent him off, John Brooks, that’s why they haven’t got a clue about the game.

“Would he have got told off by Howard Webb if he had just looked the other way? Of course he wouldn’t.

“And that feeling of scoring a winning goal and getting sent off, I think it just summed it up to me.”

Of course, it does feel incredibly silly that Diallo had to miss the trip to Brentford owing to celebrating his winning goal so passionately.

The £37m-winger was denied the chance to build momentum from that moment, and it’s evident that United may have missed him as an option too.

The counter-argument will always be, ‘the players know the rules’ – but do we want to stamp down on instinctive celebrations in football?

It’s an odd rule, and certainly one that Jeff Stelling thinks needs addressing too.

But on a different Manchester United note, Gary Neville recently shared what he’s been noticing about Raphael Varane’s performances of late.
