'Passengers': Alan Brazil says two Tottenham players did absolutely nothing in the second-half yesterday

Alan Brazil has now claimed that two Tottenham Hotspur players were offering nothing in the second half against West Ham yesterday.

Ange Postecoglou watched his side surrender their initial lead, drawing the game 1-1, but in truth either side could have won just before full-time.

The game was extremely back and forth, and despite controlling the match for spells, Spurs can’t really complain with a point.

As has been the concern for a while now, Tottenham simply look like they are liable to concede far too many chances in games.

And whilst many may believe that Postecoglou will be able to solve that situation in the transfer market this summer, some stylistic changes may be needed too.

That being said, it wasn’t necessarily the defensive line that bothered Alan Brazil yesterday.

The pundit was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and shared his surprise at James Maddison’s substitution in the second half.

Maddison, who didn’t look too happy himself, clearly wasn’t expecting to come off either.

And Alan Brazil thought two Tottenham players definitely deserved to be subbed off before him.

Alan Brazil really disappointed with Tottenham duo Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner yesterday

The pundit thought both Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson were failing to offer anything in the second half, despite combining for Spurs’ goal in the first.

Calling the duo ‘passengers’, Brazil thought they were failing to do a fundamental job as a winger.

He explained: “I was shocked as well [at Maddison’s substitution]. It had to be one of the wide players for me, but it wasn’t.

“I’m terrible me, I’m old fashioned, if your two wide players aren’t beating the full-backs regularly I think it’s a waste.

“You tell me how many times did the wide players beat the full-backs, for the goal, yes, but apart from that in the second half, nothing.

“Second half I thought they were passengers, basically.”

It’s certainly an interesting take, especially given a lot of Tottenham fans regarded Johnson as their strongest player yesterday.

Werner definitely faded after a strong start, but Johnson always looked like he could be decisive, testament to his aura around the club right now.

Of course, given Son Heung-min barely had an impact on the game all together, it will be interesting to see how Postecoglou approaches the weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest.

All that being said, Jarrod Bowen was pretty unhappy with one Tottenham player last night.
