'From what I'm hearing': Fabrizio Romano has now dropped 'very positive news' on Liverpool manager front

Liverpool are currently in pursuit of a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp when he leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

The Reds have been linked with a number of coaches in recent months, but they’ve had to look elsewhere after their top target effectively declared himself unavailable.

Liverpool were said to be after Anfield cult hero Xabi Alonso, but he has since revealed that he plans to remain with Bayer Leverkusen in the near future.

With that in mind, the Reds are now being heavily linked with Ruben Amorim, who has been impressing at Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update involving Liverpool and Amorim which he has described as potentially “very positive news”.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, via GiveMeSport, Romano claimed the release clause for other Portuguese clubs wishing to take Amorim would be €30million (£25.8million).

However, this would apparently be considerably less for football clubs outside of Portugal, which means the likes of Liverpool could potentially get him for a discount.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Liverpool and Ruben Amorim?

“In terms of decision, they are still discussing about the shortlist,” said Romano. “But the main name on that list remains Ruben Amorim from Sporting.

“He’s really appreciated around Europe, many clubs like him and other clubs in the Premier League have shown their appreciation for Amorim.

“Liverpool are really interested. They have already had some contacts being formed on the clause situation.

“The release clause of Amorim with Sporting is €30million (£25.8million) for other Portuguese clubs, but for clubs from abroad, it is less than this.

“It’s less than the €20million (£17.2million) reported in recent hours; this is what I’m hearing.

“From what I’m hearing, it will not take €30million to sign Ruben Amorim. It will be less than this and this could be very positive news for Liverpool.”

Who is Liverpool target Ruben Amorim?

Amorim has been in the managerial game for just under six years, but has quickly risen up the career ladder.

He began his journey at Lisbon-based Casa Pia AC in July 2018, but within a year, the 39-year-old joined Braga.

Amorim took the reins of the B Team before becoming the first-team head coach just before Christmas in 2019, where he won the Portuguese League Cup.

And in March 2020, he was on the move again, linking up with Sporting Lisbon and helping them to four trophies over the past few years.

Amorim won the Primeira Liga title and the League Cup in 2021, and another League Cup plus the Portuguese Super Cup in 2021/22

In terms of what Liverpool fans could expect from Amorim as manager, Braga head of recruitment Paulo Meneses told The Athletic in 2022: “His playing style is clearly pragmatic.

“He is a studious coach, with a great capacity for work and a lot of intuition. In addition, he is a born leader, with great communication skills, both internally and externally.

“He is contagious with his will to win and with the conviction that only with hard work from everyone is this possible. Group work is really a crucial point of Ruben Amorim’s philosophy.”
