'Out of this world': Aymeric Laporte left stunned by just how good £62m Man City star was against Aston Villa

Aymeric Laporte praised one of his former Manchester City teammates after his scintillating showing against Aston Villa.

As City dispatched Villa 4-1 on Wednesday, it came as no surprise that Phil Foden became the talk of the town.

The Englishman scored a hat-trick worth applauding, with Ally McCoist comparing him to the one and only Paul Gascoigne.

With all eyes on which player would step up for Pep Guardiola’s men against Unai Emery’s side, Phil Foden certainly did so.

In emphatic fashion as a number 10 once again, which will likely prompt discourse around Gareth Southgate deploying him in his natural position at Euro 2024 after his masterclass against Villa.

However, as exceptional as the 23-year-old was, he was not the only City player who impressed against the Villains.

Aymeric Laporte heaps praise on one Manchester City player in Aston Villa win

Rico Lewis came into the side from the very start and did not disappoint, proving once again why is one of the best youngsters in the Premier League with yet another accomplished display against Aston Villa.

Josko Gvardiol was a class apart against Villa as well, showcasing his ability to dominate duels and his technical excellence.

Jeremy Doku also put in an electric display and that too as a right-winger.

Stefan Ortega showcased once again why he is more than an able deputy for Ederson, making several crucial saves against the visitors.

However, Rodri, who opened the scoring for Manchester City against Aston Villa was lauded by Aymeric Laporte.

“Rodri is sincerely out of this world, lol [laugh out loud], what a baller”, he wrote on X about the £62.5 million man.

In January, Aymeric Laporte also claimed that Rodri is the “best in the world” in his position and he certainly proved that once again in a Manchester City shirt against Aston Villa.

Rodri was a man possessed against Unai Emery’s side

The 27-year-old was different gravy against Unai Emery’s side.

Or as Aymeric Laporte rightly stated, Rodri was “out of this world” as Manchester City mauled Aston Villa.

It goes without saying that the Spaniard’s finish for his opening goal and the footwork he displayed to set up Phil Foden’s second strike was stunning.

But Rodri’s passing throughout the contest was a joy to watch, especially with his weak foot.

The treble-winner dictated the game in stunning fashion, showcasing his enviable range of passing and emerging as a threat in the final third.

Out of possession as well, Rodri was often at the right place, at the time to stop Aston Villa from nearly bypassing Manchester City’s defence.

All in all, the decorated midfielder gave City a glimpse of what they missed after his suspension in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Villa this season as he put in an all-conquering performance on Wednesday night.
