Latvia is set to ink a deal with Ukraine for long-term support and security on April 11, with signing potentially taking place at the Three Seas Initiative summit in Vilnius, according to Delfi.
President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs is supposed to sign the security agreement.
The agreement is of a political nature and does not carry obligatory legal force. However, it will serve as "a clear and firm signal of support for Ukraine in its struggle against the aggressor."
It encompasses various forms of long-term assistance to Ukraine in defense against aggression, as well as support for Latvia on Ukraine's path to European Union and NATO membership.
Moreover, Latvia commits to providing military aid to Ukraine amounting to 0.25% of its gross domestic product for this year and the next two years.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
On Wednesday, April 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Finnish President Alexander Stubb signed a security guarantee agreement.
The United Kingdom was the first country to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. Historic agreements were also signed by Canada, Germany, France, Denmark, and Italy.
Other partner countries are also engaged in negotiations with Ukraine regarding the conclusion of agreements.
