France dismisses Russia’s claims that it’s open for dialogue regarding Ukraine

Russia’s Defense Ministry had earlier claimed that French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu had expressed “readiness for a dialogue on Ukraine" in the conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu.

Russia’s MoD claimed that the starting point for discussions would have been the 2022 talks between Ukraine and Russia in Türkiye, which brought no results.

"It is not true," a French government source said.

"At no moment did we show any willingness to dialogue on Ukraine or negotiations or anything like that."

The conversation focused on the heightened terrorism threat following the attack in Moscow claimed by ISIS-K, an affiliate of Islamic State, a French readout of the call, the first since October 2022 and initiated by Paris, said.
