Celtic loanee gains exciting international recognition, could play in Paris 2024 Olympics

Celtic are in the midst of a climactic end to the season as they look to edge closer to claiming silverware under Brendan Rodgers.

With eight Scottish Premiership matches left, the Bhoys hold a slender advantage over Rangers ahead of the clash against our rivals at Ibrox this weekend.

Nevertheless, it is easy to forget the progress of loanees who are currently plying their trade elsewhere as they aim to impress Rodgers and company.

Bosun Lawal also deserves a special mention at Fleetwood Town; meanwhile, Marco Tilio has received regular minutes on loan at Melbourne City after a frustrating six months at Parkhead in the wake of his move last summer.

In total, the Australian winger made just two cameo appearances for the Hoops against Motherwell and Hibernian.

The 22-year-old won the City Boys’ Player of the Month award in February, a month when he notched his maiden goal back at the club against Sydney FC.

Truthfully, it is hard to know whether he has a long-term future in Glasgow under Rodgers; nevertheless, it is good to see Tilio back in a familiar environment where he can thrive away from the pressure associated with playing for Celtic.

Marco Tilio’s exciting international recognition ahead of Olympics

Per Fox Sports, Tilio has been called up to the Australia Under-23 squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup tournament in Qatar later this month.

Their involvement also doubles as a qualification process for the Olympic Games in Paris, where the Socceroos hope to compete this summer if they can land a top-three finish.

Fourth place will go into an intercontinental playoff match against Guinea for the final available slot; however, several prominent figures have missed out on the squad due to the timing falling outside an official FIFA international window.

Despite this, Tilio will be present, which will offer the Hurstville-born man an opportunity to make history with his country, something that can only benefit his Celtic prospects moving forward.
