'I have to say': Malo Gusto explains why he's so happy with Chelsea fans right now

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto has just sent a message to his club’s supporters.

Malo Gusto has become a bit of a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge this season following his brilliant performances.

In what has been an extremely disappointing campaign for Chelsea, with Mauricio Pochettino‘s men currently sitting 12th in the Premier League table, the right-back has been a shining light alongside Cole Palmer.

In 21 top-flight appearances, Gusto has provided five assists. Over the last year, he has also ranked in the 88th percentile for touches in the attacking penalty box among full-backs (FBref), showing just how much he loves to get forward.

The Frenchman was seen celebrating Palmer’s second goal against Burnley last Saturday before his team-mate had even scored.

Malo Gusto’s message to Chelsea fans

Understandably, Chelsea supporters have shown Gusto a lot of love this season.

The 20-year-old says he is “proud” to hear them sing his name and has now thanked the Stamford Bridge faithful.

In an exclusive interview for Chelsea’s latest matchday programme, which has been shared by the club’s official website, Gusto said: “Firstly, I was very proud to hear them singing for me, and I have to say thank you to all the fans because they are very good with me and with the team.

“Every time, they are behind us and it’s very important for the group to have this type of fans. We just have to show them, with our performances on the pitch, that we are very proud to represent them. I just try to do my best every game and to show them we are Chelsea.

“It’s important for the team to finish this season strong, to become a great team all together. We are young, but we also have a lot of quality. We are Chelsea, we have to show to the fans that we play to win everything.”

Malo Gusto can make Chelsea fans love him even more tonight

Chelsea take on Manchester United in the Premier League and Gusto is set to feature after an injury scare last weekend.

Pochettino confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the France international is fit enough to play.

Chelsea have not actually beaten United in the top flight since 2017. Bearing that in mind, Gusto could become a real hero if he manages to score tonight.

The former Lyon man is yet to open up his account in blue, but he is one of the team’s biggest attacking threats and gets himself into very good positions. Maybe today will be the day he scores his first goal for Chelsea.
