‘Running riot’: Martin Keown says £225k-p/w Man City player is on another level this season

Martin Keown has heaped praise on one Manchester City player for what he’s been doing on the pitch this season.

The Citizens are currently on the hunt to regain the three titles they won last season.

In addition to being in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the blues took a step towards potentially winning a fourth Premier League title in a row last night by beating Aston Villa 4-1.

After this game at the Etihad Stadium, one pundit highlighted one particular figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad for some significant praise.

Speaking on TNT Sports after last night’s win over Villa, Keown had this to say about Phil Foden and the season he’s currently having.

He said: “He is running riot. It’s his best season.”

With 44 appearances across all competitions under his belt in this campaign, the 23-year-old, who is currently picking up a weekly wage of £225k-per-week, has scored 21 goals and delivered 10 assists.

Three of those goals came during Wednesday’s win over Unai Emery’s side, taking his tally to 14 Premier League goals in 30 matches.

In addition to that, Foden has made more passes into the penalty area (50) and carries into the final third of the pitch (73) than any other City player in the league this season.

The Englishman’s overall league performances have earned him a season rating of 7.47/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player in the City squad.

With Foden now being the only English player to be involved in over 30 goals this season without taking a single penalty as well as equalling Frank Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba for the number of Premier League hat-tricks he’s scored (3), it’s easy to see why Keown thinks the City star has set a new level this term.

Looking ahead to the remainder of what could be another successful season for the Manchester club, if the England international can continue to deliver goal contributions and top performances on a regular basis, he’ll give his side a great chance of lifting more silverware.
