'I've been told': David Ornstein has just dropped some good news involving Liverpool and Ruben Amorim

Liverpool are currently in pursuit of a new manager to take over from Jurgen Klopp when he leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

Quite a few names have been linked with the Reds hotseat, even though their top pick has effectively ruled himself out of the job.

Xabi Alonso was said to be high up on the Liverpool wish-list, but the Spaniard recently confirmed that he plans to stay on at Bayer Leverkusen for the foreseeable.

With that in mind, the Reds have reportedly switched their attention to the likes of Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi.

David Ornstein has now spoken about Liverpool’s interest in Amorim in his latest Q&A on The Athletic.

The esteemed journalist has some good news on that front. For instance, Amorim is “very much in the frame” for Liverpool, but not Barcelona.

In addition, Ornstein says he has heard that the Sporting Lisbon manager’s preference is the Premier League, and also, his release clause is a relatively low €10million.

What has David Ornstein said about links between Liverpool and Ruben Amorim?

“My most recent information is that he is very much the frame for Liverpool – not Barcelona – and conversations have taken place,” said Ornstein.

“But despite many on the outside suggesting he is the top target, I’m not sure that’s the case internally – not because someone else is or he won’t become that but because there isn’t one while Liverpool continue with what will be a thorough process.

“Clearly Amorim is a wanted man and I definitely expect him to leave Sporting this summer.

“I hear the Premier League is his preference and we don’t know for sure yet but there could well be multiple vacancies, so even if Liverpool do decide to go for him he will also need to decide if they are where he wants to go.

“Whoever takes Amorim will need to pay Sporting for his services; I’ve been told the figure this summer is €10m.

“Others have reported higher but whatever the precise figure it is a lot lower than it was when Chelsea spoke to him before appointing both Potter and then Pochettino.”

Liverpool fans will no doubt welcome Ornstein’s update involving Liverpool’s interest in Amorim.

Although there’s no concrete progress – which isn’t surprising considering the time of year and how clubs will be fully focusing on the run-in – there’s a lot of optimism for the Reds.

Barcelona not being in the frame is good, as it’s one less big club for Liverpool to compete against for Amorim.

Likewise, the Premier League as a personal preference and a low release clause mean the Reds will certainly fancy their chances of getting their man.
