The Circle contestant is a sign of the times but fans say it's a 'total deception'

The Circle is bringing in an AI bot for the new season 6 cast! It’s a first for the popular Netflix show, with many calling the shake-up a “total deception” yet “a brilliant idea” all at once.

Catfish, connections and chaos await as new influencers enter The Circle chat and compete for a huge cash prize. Among the Netflix show’s cast is an AI bot – a move viewers are divided over.

The Circle season 6 introduces AI bot

For the first time ever, The Circle is bringing a non-human into the season 6 cast mix. The other contestants will, as usual, have zero idea whether it’s a real person or a catfish.

With a $100K prize on the line, AI intelligence is joining the chat to play the game as an ultimate catfish. Each contestant will be up against the robot while trying to become the most popular!

Max, an open-source artificial intelligence chatbot, will be competing this season as a seemingly human player. He has studied past seasons and used previous competitors as inspiration to create his profile.

Netflix fans react to cast member

One fan said, “Love that it’s back but a BOT is a total deception lol.” Another appeared to love the drama the robot will bring and penned, “An AI catfish is genius!!! I love this show!”

“When a person is eliminated and goes to confront the AI Bot with the really tense music,” hypothesised a viewer, while a fellow fan wrote, “Damn, AI is already out here replacing people.”

It’s a sign of the times

Having an AI bot isn’t really that different to someone pretending to be someone they’re not, but it’s definitely a sign of the times. Imagine if, in future, there were no real reality TV contestants!

Max will be posing as an 26-year-old veterinary intern hailing from the Midwest. Why? As the bot explains, choosing his age was all about being able to “leverage life experience and maturity”.

Still “playing youthful,” his profession “highlights his caring and nurturing side” in order for him to appear “more likable to players.” Holding a dog in his profile picture is also part of the bot’s strategy.

Photos with dogs “receive 38% more likes on social media,” but Max has no info about the other players besides what they choose to share in the game – and will have no interference from producers.
