'No': Liverpool and Man United told 52-year-old manager would reject them both

Liverpool and Manchester United are two of a number of Premier League sides that will be looking for a new manager this summer – with iconic boss Jurgen Klopp to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Klopp has already confirmed he is leaving the club at the end of the season, exiting Anfield as a legend. Manchester United may decide to ppart ways with Erik ten Hag, as the Dutch gaffer continues to struggle.

Other Premier League clubs may also look to change manager. Mauricio Pochettino could leave Chelsea, Brighton may need to replace Roberto De Zerbi. Sam Allardyce is worried for Eddie Howe at Newcastle.

One manager that looks set in stone more than most right now, is Unai Emery. He has guided Aston Villa to a lifty fourth place in the table, and on course to take Villa into the Champions League next season.

Could Unai Emery join Liverpool or Manchester United?

Spurs are breathing down Villa’s necks. But having guided Villa into Europe last season and still in the hunt for the Conference League trophy – his job security is as strong as it could possibly be right now.

Such is the power he has at Villa, Stiliyan Petrov told Stadium Astro that he would reject the likes of Liverpool or Manchester United if they came calling – because he can do what he likes at Aston Villa.

“No,” Petrov said, when asked if Emery would take jobs at Liverpool or Old Trafford. Petrov continued: “I’ll tell you why. He’s got the power. He can sign his own players at Villa, he can build the team he wants.

“He’s got the power to do whatever he wants because he deserves it. I think he won’t leave that club because there is a long-term project, he trusts the chairmen,” former Villa midfielder Petrov continued.

Emery would be right to reject, but Villa need to repay his loyalty

Liverpool have actually been linked with a move to bring in the former PSG, Arsenal and Villarreal manager. But the chances of doing so seem unlikely given how strong his position is at his current side.

However, if those clubs do come calling for Emery and he rejects them – then he will need rewarding for doing so. A reward for his loyalty, and a reward for getting Villa into the Champions League next term.

A big transfer kitty this summer, depending on Financial Fairplay, would be a fair reward for Emery’s work over the last 18 months. They need it, given the difficulty of navigating the Premier League and Europe.
