What Evangelos Marinakis did in the tunnel after Nottingham Forest beat Fulham 3-1

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been a keen spectator more often than not at the City Ground this season. He was once again in attendance on Tuesday as his team defeated Fulham 3-1 and it’s been spotted what he did after the game.

The Forest chief is a character, to say the least. When Forest played Fulham and lost 5-0 in December, Marinakis tossed his matchday pass into a bush outside Craven Cottage, such was his angst at the performance he’d just been served up.

A lot has changed since then from a Forest perspective. That result was arguably the beginning of the end for Steve Cooper, despite the fact that the Reds fan base stayed behind to sign the former boss’ name and clap him off at the end.

Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed by Forest a few weeks after that horrendous result in West London. On Tuesday, Forest gained some retribution on Marco Silva’s team for that horrible night back in December – and Marinakis appeared impressed.

Well, Marinakis isn’t shy of making himself known after games down at pitchside. In March, he was furious with Paul Tierney after a wrong decision against Liverpool and made himself known at the end of the contest.

This time, his presence was on more positive terms after a big Forest victory. He’d watched on as goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White had given the Reds a huge three points in their survival quest.

Now, the official media team have posted a video on Instagram that shows what Marinakis did after Forest had beat Fulham. He was waiting at the end of the tunnel for all of the players and gave every star who had an impact a warm embrace.

There was a particularly nice moment with Gibbs-White. The star man got an extended hug from Marinakis and clearly, the owner values what he is currently bringing to the Forest team.

Marinakis needs to be cut some slack from Forest fans

In our view, Marinakis has done some good stuff during his time overseeing affairs at the club. Of course, there have been some situations where he’s had to learn some harsh lessons – not least with the most recent points deduction for months of misspending.

Still, it’s Marinakis’ football club and ultimately, he has years of experience when it comes to working in football. He can, therefore, run things the way he sees fit and it’s likely that he will continue in such a manner.

It’s images like this that showcase where the owner’s loyalties lie. He clearly has the very best interests of the club at heart deep down and he will continue forking out millions each season to try and establish Forest in the Premier League.

The Reds players seemed to receive Marinakis well in the tunnel after the game. The owner wasn’t a hindrance and it was nice to see him congratulating the players following a hard night at the office and a very decent victory.
