Julian Gressel has detailed what David Beckham told him on Inter Miami’s pre-season tour after an inch-perfect assist against Hong Kong XI.
The German-born USA international joined the Herons this winter after being released from the Columbus Crew, with Gressel quickly becoming a key player for Inter Miami.
Leading the English pre-match huddles, Gressel has established himself as one of Tata Martino’s most important figures and someone who has already earned the respect of one Lionel Messi.

And speaking on the Player/Manager podcast, Gressel revealed how he won praise from Beckham during Inter Miami’s pre-season friendly against Hong Kong XI, where the midfielder impressed on the day.
Assisting Leonardo Campagna, Gressel showed that day why Inter Miami worked hard to sign the former Atlanta United star, with Beckham impressed with what he saw from the USMNT star in Asia.
Gressel said when asked if he has impressed Beckham yet at Inter Miami: “We played the game in Hong Kong and I had an unbelievable cross, first-time out of a full sprint.
“And after I hit that cross I was like ‘that felt like Beckham’, and funnily enough, after the game he came up to me and was like ‘that was one hell of a ball you played there.'”

Gressel’s arrival at Inter Miami earlier this year was seen by many as a major sign of intent, with the MLS superstar showing already why the Florida franchise wanted to recruit him.
The German-born midfielder has adapted to life with the Herons with ease under former Atlanta manager Tata Martino, with Gressel’s quality now being respected by the likes of Messi and Beckham.
