What Konstantinos Tsimikas was doing behind Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool bench before kick-off

It was a nervy night before Alexis Mac Allister proved to be the game changer again with a Steven Gerrard-like strike into the net to beat Sheffield United, returning Liverpool to the top of the league.

Darwin Nunez’s early strike had been cancelled out by an own goal scored by Conor Bradley. The score remained at 1-1 until the 76th minute, with a feeling of anxiety and nervousness among Liverpool fans.

But, as Mac Allister continues to prove in a Reds shirt, he is a player capable of match-defining moments and so be it on Thursday night, again. He got the crucial assist in the 2-1 win over Brighton on Sunday.

Then, tonight, a howitzer into the top corner – sharing likeness to Gerrard’s famous goal against Greek side Olympiakos. Cody Gakpo make it 3-1. The connection between fans and players as evident as ever.

The noise generated by Mac Allister’s incredible strike – a player Roberto De Zerbi praised after his assist against his Brighton side – was right out of the top drawer. A sensational goal to win all three points.

Konstantinos Tsimikas proved that, just before kick-off. In a video published on TNT Sports just before the start of the game, he is seen singing You’ll Never Walk Alone on the bench behind gaffer Jurgen Klopp.

It was another huge win for Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title. They now sit top, in a game they absolutely had to win to stand any chance of toppling City and Arsenal come the end of the season.

It has now got to the point where by if any of the top three lose, their chances of winning the title quickly diminish. Liverpool will need depth over the next few weeks, as they push for the Europa League title.

Tsimikas, among others, will get game time in the next few weeks ahead of an interesting summer for the left-back. But at this stage, results are crucial and a win for Liverpool shoves the advantage their way.
