'He did ever so well': Sky Sports pundit blown away by 23-year-old Arsenal player tonight

Arsenal have returned to the top of the Premier League table after running out 2-0 winners over Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

On Sunday, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners picked up a point in arguably the toughest fixture in the English football calendar, away at Manchester City.

Arsenal were then up against Luton, a team that has been battling bravely in pursuit of Premier League survival and who gave Spurs a real scare at the weekend.

The Gunners didn’t have such issues against the Hatters, however, as they took the lead on 24 minutes and never looked back, cruising to victory.

Emile Smith Rowe dispossessed Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu before feeding Martin Odegaard. The Gunners captain then played a one-two with Kai Havertz before firing into the bottom corner.

Smith Rowe then played a big part in the second, firing the ball across the face of goal from the by-line and forcing an own goal from Daiki Hashioka in the 44th minute.

What has been said about Arsenal forward Emile Smith Rowe?

Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison, covering the game on Soccer Special, loved what he saw from the 23-year-old in the build-up to the second.

“It was good play from Smith Rowe down the left side,” Morrison said, as per the Sky Sports website. “He did ever so well.

“That is game over. I know it’s early but they’ve caused them all kinds of problems.

“Luton just have to keep the score down. Goal difference could be big for them.”

It’s great to see Smith Rowe do so well on just his first start for Arsenal since January.

The Hale End graduate has had to deal with injuries and with falling down in the pecking order, but he’s certainly given Arteta some food for thought going forward.

In addition, Smith Rowe’s contributions against a tricky opponents could make all the difference in the latter stages of the season, with the title at stake.

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table with their victory, and currently sit on 68 points from 30 games.
