Alejandro Garnacho has just done what no teenager has managed in the Premier League for 25 years

As if Manchester United supporters needed reminding, the famous Treble season in 1998/99 is now 25 years ago.

While Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were tearing it up, another promising young striker was emerging elsewhere in the Premier League.

Not that United fans were paying any attention, but a future Red Devil, Michael Owen, was beginning to make a real name for himself at Liverpool.

The situation is a little reversed today. While Liverpool battle for the Premier League, a young Manchester United prospect is matching one of Owen’s records.

Alejandro Garnacho nets a brace, again

Alejandro Garnacho looked a little annoyed when he was substituted against Chelsea. You can understand that, he had scored two goals, and was hoping to net his first ever hat-trick for the club.

His frustration will have grown when Manchester United allowed a 3-2 lead to turn into a 4-3 defeat.

Garnacho scored a brace in each half, the first showed off his pace and cool finishing when he was set up by a bad pass from Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The second came after a wondrous pass from Antony, yes you read that right, with Garnacho scoring his first ever headed goal for Manchester United.

Garnacho is now up to nine goals for the season, and he also has four assists.

Alejandro Garnacho matches Owen record

Alejandro Garnacho’s brace at Stamford Bridge was the first time he had scored two goals in a game for Manchester United away from home.

It was his third brace of the season, and this is where the Michael Owen comparison comes in.

Garnacho, 19, is the first teenager since 1998/99, to score three braces in one Premier League season.

To put that in further context, when Owen did so for Liverpool, Garnacho was not even born.

Garnacho’s other two-goal showings came in matches atOld Trafford in wins over Aston Villa and against West Ham.

This time he was on the losing side, although he did not deserve to be, with Cole Palmer one-upping him with a hat-trick.

Garnacho’s record is an impressive one though, and it is great to see him adding more to his game and going from strength to strength.
