Rio Ferdinand appalled by Man Utd player who was at fault for Chelsea goal, did something you 'can't afford' to do

Manchester United let victory slip from their hands against Chelsea in added time, and now Rio Ferdinand has slammed one player for his role.

Erik ten Hag will be left absolutely livid after his team dropped points for the second successive game in added time.

From 3-2 up in the 99th minute, to lose 4-3 is a real capitulation which is incredibly embarrassing for Manchester United.

The most annoying part about the loss is that it discarded all the good work from the team up until that point to fight back from 2-0 down in the opening 20 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Rio Ferdinand was left fuming at one United player for his role in Chelsea winning the game.

Rio Ferdinand left fuming with Diogo Dalot

Ferdinand was on punditry duty for TNT Sports and after the game, he critiqued the moment which afforded Chelsea the chance to draw level.

In the 100th minute or so, Diogo Dalot gave away a penalty as he gave away a penalty, fouling Noni Madueke – albeit it was a harsh call.

For this, Ferdinand slammed Dalot as his foul was something he really shouldn’t have let happen.

“The magnitude in the moment of the game you cannot afford to do that.”

The moment came with Dalot at left-back which means that this position has seen United throw away two wins in the past week, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was blamed by Peter Schmeichel vs Brentford.

Diogo Dalot’s statistics for Manchester United vs Chelsea

Usually, we’d struggle to find a reason to critique Dalot, as he’s been our best player this season.

But against Chelsea, this wasn’t the case, as he struggled when pushed out onto the left against an in-form Cole Palmer.

But despite his poorest display in months, Dalot still had some moments to be proud of, such as his assist.

Here are his stats from the game, as per FotMob.

  • 1 assist
  • 87 per cent pass accuracy
  • 2 chances created
  • 1 penalty conceded
  • 58 touches
  • 8 passes into the final third
  • 1 tackle won
  • 11 defensive actions
  • 3 interceptions
  • 3 recoveries
  • 5 duels won

From these stats, we can see that Dalot struggled to keep Palmer under control, but the pair did have a fairly decent battle. Had it not been for his two penalties and deflected goal, we’d probably be viewing Dalot’s display differently
