Sean Dyche simply must start £15m Everton player vs Burnley, it'll be ridiculous if he doesn't - opinion

With Everton back in action again tomorrow, there are a number of decisions that must be made in order to put Burnley to the sword.

The Toffees have already brushed aside the Clarets on two occasions this season, once in the Premier League at Turf Moor, and then again in the EFL Cup at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche will be hoping to replicate the latter once again, in which they cruised to a 3-0 victory with little resistance.

However, things almost certainly will not be that easy.

Despite their position in the table, Vincent Kompany has enjoyed a mini resurgence of late, having gone unbeaten in their last four matches. So, there must be no complacency, and a full-strength lineup must be deployed.

James Garner has to start vs Burnley

Therefore, James Garner has certainly merited a recall.

Coming off the bench against Newcastle United in midweek, Dyche had revealed how he wanted to afford him that little bit of extra rest ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

After all, the 23-year-old has been ever-present this season for Everton, playing at least 90 minutes in all but four of the 27 Premier League games he has started.

The manager relies heavily upon him, due to his work rate and quality in the engine room.

So, fresh from his reduced minutes on Tuesday, Garner will certainly start now. If he doesn’t, it’s frankly ridiculous.

James Garner changed the game for Everton vs Newcastle United

What would make his omission all the more baffling is just how impressive he was when he came off the bench against the Magpies.

Injecting some much-needed energy into a game where Everton had looked leggy and disinterested at times, he was demanding possession at last and seeking to make things happen.

This very nearly culminated in a goal too, as he drove into the opposition box and struck his right-footed effort off the inside of the post.

Then, whilst rather tenuous to link him to the event, it was actually his delivery which saw Paul Dummett wrestle Ashley Young to the ground, conceding the all-important penalty to draw the Toffees level.

The £15m maestro maintained a 92% pass accuracy whilst making one clearance and one block, and very nearly found the net too. You can’t ask for much more.

The hope is that, upon reinstating him to the starting side, he can now continue such a performance and once again be the catalyst that gets Everton a result. This time, however, it must be a win.
