Garnacho and Antony will get the credit but 29-year-old Manchester United star was outstanding v Chelsea

Manchester United somehow contrived to blow another stoppage time lead, this time turning a 3-2 lead into a 4-3 loss.

This was a first Premier League defeat to Chelsea since 2017, losing a game we had been in total control of.

The way United blew the game was embarrassing. United switched off, with Chelsea equalising through a late winner, via a deflection.

There were some good performances in there, withAlejandro Garnacho scoring a brace, and Bruno Fernandes also on the scoresheet.

Garnacho and Antony scored highest in our player ratings, with the latter providing his first Premier League assist of the season.

Bruno Fernandes deserves credit

Bruno Fernandes scored Manchester United’s second goal, netting a header from close range. This was his first goal from open play in the Premier League since November.

Fernandes worked tirelessly and did not deserve to be on the losing side.

He continues to be treated disdainfully by the referees, with not a single foul called against him despite the fact he was brought down several times.

Here is a look at some key numbers from Bruno Fernandes’ performance at Stamford Bridge.

  • 3 Chances Created
  • 74 Touches
  • 10 Recoveries
  • 50 of 60 passes complete

Fernandes was part of a lively front four with Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.

United lost a lot of impetus after Garnacho was substituted, he took his brace well and had looked to set the team on for victory.

Bruno Fernandes puts up the numbers

Bruno Fernandes is Manchester United’s most productive player this season withnine goals and nine assists to date.

While Rasmus Hojlund has scored 13 goals, he only has two assists, with his tally of 15 goal contributions behind Fernandes’ 18.

It has not been a memorable season for Manchester United at all,and as captain, Fernandes must bear some responsibility for that.

But last night he was very good, and that will get lost amid the pain and frustration of defeat, and the brilliance of Garnacho.
