However, two late strikes by Palmer, the latter being the latest in Premier League history, sent Stamford Bridge into pandemonium.

Mauricio Pochettino looked to his bench late on when things were not going his way anymore, with most of the attackers named as substitutes coming on to try and turn the game around again.

One of those trusted with that was Raheem Sterling, who has certainly not enjoyed a positive spell of late in West London.

His performances of late have left supporters not impressed at all, and in fact has not really reached the heights many expected since his £50m move.

Sterling was never backed to find the net himself last night, with his record against United notoriously bad in his career.

The former Manchester City star will be hoping his impact off the bench could be a launching pad for the rest of the season, and therefore turning things around with his own supporters.

He will have to compete with Madueke for minutes though, with the youngster making a real impact for both club and country when he has been given the opportunity to perform.
