‘Phenomenal’: Ben Foster says Tottenham might have their own version of William Saliba on their hands

Arsenal have one of the most exciting young defenders in world football in the shape of William Saliba.

The Frenchman is a top player who is the envy of many clubs within the Premier League.

Indeed, almost every team in England would like a player like Saliba, but not every side is that lucky.

However, according to Ben Foster, speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Tottenham Hotspur do indeed have a player in that mould.

Tottenham have their own version of William Saliba

Foster was full of praise for Tottenham’s Micky Van de Ven, comparing him to Saliba.

“Is it right that his top speed is very similar to the world record speed Usain Bolt set? That’s just phenomenal?” Foster said.

“There were lots of teams in for him, I don’t know if I’m brave enough to say it yet, but his style of play is very kind of Rolls Royce. It’s very much like a Virgil van Dijk or a William Saliba. I’m not quite jumping in head first on that one yet, but that’s his style of play, he’s very calm, very composed, he just looks fully in control all the time.”

Van de Ven and Saliba could define both north London clubs

Van de Ven and Saliba are undoubtedly two of the best defenders in the Premier League, and at the respective ages of just 22 and 23, they could define the north London derby for the next 10 years.

Centre-backs can often be the most important players in any team, and while there are some missing jigsaw pieces at both Tottenham and Arsenal, they can be assured that their centre-back situations look to be quite solid for the long-term.

Van de Ven and Saliba could end up being the faces of both Tottenham and Arsenal for the next decade.
