Aston Villa can do something they haven't done in 40 years against Brentford tomorrow

Aston Villa can break a 40-year Premier League record against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Unai Emery’s side are looking to bounce back from their damaging 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

Unfortunately, Villa caught City in red-hot form. When they’re at their best, there isn’t a team in Europe that can compete with the Premier League champions.

It’s essential that the Eithad humiliation is quickly put to bed ahead of what is another crucial fixture this weekend.

And, in fact, Aston Villa have the chance to break goalscoring record against Thomas Frank’s side.

Villa’s home form has been largely impressive. Villa Park has become a tough place to visit, particularly for the league’s lesser teams. Wolves, for example, lacked cutting edge and were punished.

The better teams – Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea – had success due to their clinical edge. When Villa failed to take chances, defeats followed.

However, luckily, goals haven’t been in short supply, and now, Emery’s men are closing in on what would be a remarkable feat.

According to Birmingham Live’s John Townley, Aston Villa are now one goal away from matching their all-time home Premier League record.

Their 2023/24 haul has matched their 1982/83 record, meaning one more goal would set Villa’s best goalscoring return in over 40 years.

Will Aston Villa’s home form secure Champions League football?

Regardless of this season’s outcome, Villa fans will be delighted with what the club has managed to achieve. Come the start of April, anyone would have taken the prospect of Champions League football being firmly on the agenda and a European trophy still on the cards

Yet, there is now a desire to finish the job.

Tottenham’s draw with West Ham United means they are just two points behind Villa whilst also holding an all-important game in hand.

Ange Postecoglou’s men aren’t in good form. However, it will only take a short burst to overthrow the Villans. Fixtures against sides like Brentford cannot be passed up. There’s no easy game in the Premier League, but some are easier than others – and this is undoubtedly one.
