'Can't guarantee that I'll stay': Manager has confirmed he could leave, Liverpool are pushing to get him

Liverpool’s new manager hunt is now entering its final stages as the Reds look to tie up an appointment.

With the end of the season fast approaching, Liverpool are running out of time on making sure Jurgen Klopp’s successor is ready to go on day one of the new campaign.

As they ramp up the search, it seems certain that they’ll have a new coach in place by then, though. When that will be announced remains to be seen, with Klopp set to play a role in the timing.

For now though, there doesn’t appear to be anything to announce. The candidates are still being assessed. One of those no longer in the running is obviously Xabi Alonso. After Alonso ruled himself out, Liverpool supporters may be wary of other potential options doing the same.

But today brings some good news in that respect, with one of the Reds key targets suggesting that he’s on the way out of his current club.

What has been said today

While Klopp’s focus now turns to Sunday’s game against Manchester United, those above him at Anfield continue to work tirelessly to sort out who follows in his footsteps.

With some of those earmarked involved in big games themselves between now and the end of the season, it isn’t easy.

One of the candidates to have the busiest schedule is Sporting’s Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old is reportedly ‘actively interested’ in joining Liverpool, but in between that he’s also going for a league and cup double.

Today, Amorim has been speaking to the press ahead of his team’s potential title-decider tomorrow. Above their Lisbon rivals by one point in the table, Sporting welcome Benfica to the Alvalade on Saturday evening.

And according to Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda on X, Amorim had some words that may be of interest to Liverpool fans before the big game.

“Ruben Amorim just said: ” I can’t guarantee that I’ll stay at Sporting… “,” Sepulveda writes. “LFC is pushing to close the deal before the end of the season.”

Will Ruben Amorim join Liverpool

As of today, Amorim does feel like the coach most likely to be in charge of Liverpool next season.

Barcelona are also seemingly interested in hiring the former Portugal international. However, according to Sepulveda, the Reds are currently ahead in the race.

There are still other candidates being assessed, with Bologna’s Thiago Motta one to potentially watch out for.

But Amorim is obviously ready to call it a day in Lisbon and broaden his horizons elsewhere. Liverpool should capitalise on that ambition and finalise things as quick as they possibly can.
