Steve Bruce shares what Pep Guardiola told him about ‘unbelievable’ Man City star back in 2020

Steve Bruce has shared what Pep Guardiola told him about one of Manchester City’s star players back in 2020.

Having been at the Manchester club since 2016, the Spaniard has coached a lot of players who have made moves in and out of the club.

Now though, one former Premier League manager has revealed what the City boss told him about one of his current players.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, Bruce had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I remember having a conversation with Pep on the touchline before the game we played them and [David] Silva was leaving and he said I don’t have to replace him because we have a ready-made one in the youngster Foden.

“You know when someone speaks like that about him, it was four or five years ago. And how remarkable he has been. What is he, 23 now? He has won four or five Premier Leagues. Unbelievable.”

After spending 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, Silva left at the end of the 2019/20 season.

During his time with the Citizens, the Spaniard made 436 appearances across all competitions, scoring 77 goals, supplying 140 assists and winning four Premier League titles.

Even though Foden had only made his senior debut for the Blues back in November 2017, the fact that Guardiola had enough faith in him to see him as a ready-made replacement for Silva shows just how impressed the manager was with the Englishman.

Back in January 2020, Silva said that the Manchester club were in “good hands” because they had Foden making himself a regular in the senior team.

This shows that Guardiola wasn’t the only one who believed that the 23-year-old was good enough to become a key figure for the Citizens.

With the England international now having scored 21 goals and delivered 10 assists in 44 appearances this season, it’s clear that Silva and Guardiola were right about how good Foden could become.
