Touching 2023 rom-com starring Anne Hathaway is a must-see on Hulu

It’s strange that certain movies can pass audiences by despite having an absolute dynamite cast. Thanks to streaming platforms, on the other hand, there is eventually another chance for a film to land the bigger audience it deserves. You see it often with the Netflix ‘Top 10’, titles from years ago finally getting more love. Hulu gets in on the action too, and the latest must-see added is She Came To Me.

She Came To Me is streaming on Hulu

She Came to Me is an American romantic comedy directed by Rebecca Miller that was released in theaters last October but added to Hulu on Friday, April 5th 2024.

Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones) stars in the movie’s main role as composer Steven Lauddem, a musical master who is suffering from a particularly severe case of creative block. His operatic comeback remains unfinished and he’s desperate to achieve the kind of inspiration that will guide the completion of his ambitious score.

He’s encouraged to seek inspiration by his psychiatrist wife Patricia (played by Oscar winner Anne Hathaway). One day, he meets and is seduced by a stranger he meets at a bar named Katrina (Marisa Tomei, who played Aunt May in the MCU). The encounter triggers an unlikely sequence of events that’s thrilling to follow.

Quirky, with humor and chemistry, She Came To Me is certainly worth coming toward now it’s on Hulu. It wasn’t a total win with critics, but I’d say it’s a pretty perfect watch for a lazy weekend if you’re looking for something new paired with solid performances.

Anne Hathaway talks She Came To Me

To equip you with some insight from the actress herself that will help make the experience of watching She Came To Me all the more satisfying, she spoke to IndieWire about inspiration.

“I don’t know how this is going to sound, but I watched a lot of nun cinema,” Anne revealed when discussing her preparation for the role.

“Just realizing the second you put a nun or aspiring nun into a film, you sort of have free rein to do whatever you want. You take a funny premise for a film and then you put a character who wants to be a nun in there, and suddenly the possibilities turn up that much more. Then you put in the opera on top of it, and I just found the whole thing promising and delicious.”

She cited watching Viridiana, a 1961 comedy-drama from director Luis Buñuel, which incidentally I didn’t like despite being a fan of a bunch of the filmmaker’s other films. In my recommendation, you can afford to skip that and enjoy the much more palatable, fun movie of Anne’s.

She Came To Me is now streaming on Hulu.
