‘We missed him’: Pundit says Liverpool weren’t the same without £16m player against Sheff Utd

Liverpool beat Sheffield United 3-1 on Thursday evening, but it wasn’t the most convincing of performances from the Reds.

As strange as it sounds in a game where Liverpool broke the record for possession in a Premier League game, they did have a few tricky moments.

Indeed, on another day, the Blades could’ve proved to be a real problem for Liverpool, they created two great chances in the first five minutes, while Liverpool’s first goal from Darwin Nunez was a bit of a fluke.

The Reds weren’t on their A-game on Thursday, and that may be down to the absence of one player.

Liverpool really missed one player

Speaking on the Official Liverpool Podcast, Neil Mellor has been discussing Liverpool’s performance against Sheffield United, and he reckons the Reds really missed Wataru Endo on the day.

“I suppose one of the difficulties would be with the players who don’t understand the Premier League. We thought Mac Allister would settle in and he’s been absolutely brilliant, but the likes of Szoboszlai and Endo as well, he arrived late in the window, I thought we missed him today, I hope he’s back for the weekend against United, he frees Mac Allister to play further forward,” Mellor said.

Wataru Endo has become so important

Mellor isn’t wrong, Endo was missed against Sheffield United, and he’s become incredibly important to this Liverpool team.

The Reds did dominate against Sheffield United, but there was that air of vulnerability around at times, and that perhaps wouldn’t have been there if Endo was playing.

The midfielder has become more important to Liverpool than many would’ve imagined he ever would be, and we can only hope that he will be back in the team for the Manchester United game this weekend.

Endo has really become a key player for Liverpool, and his £16m signing may well be one of the best of the season.
