Russia gearing up for new offensive in eastern Ukraine — Estonian intelligence

Ukraine installs "dragon's teeth" defenses in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, March 2024

The reorganization and massive bombing by Russian forces may indicate preparations for a larger-scale offensive in early summer, according to the commander of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center, Ants Kiviselg.

"Due to the worsening situation in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Federation has begun to use larger armored formations, but without much success so far," said Kiviselg.

“However, Russia has begun reorganizing its forces along the entire front, which could culminate in intensified combat operations in the coming weeks.”

While Kiviselg does not expect major offensive activity in the next few weeks, he believes that Russia might try to exert more pressure on Ukrainian society and military by the summer.

Russia continued bombing targets both near the front line and deep in Ukrainian territory throughout March.

"However, the expected new major Russian offensive will still require mobilization, for which the Russian Federation has prepared, but we cannot confirm that it will take place in the coming weeks," Kiviselg concluded.
