'Definitely': Ange Postecoglou doesn't think Tottenham fans have seen best from £63k-a-week star

The feel-good factor is back at Tottenham Hotspur after so many years with constant negativity circling the side – and Ange Postecoglou is key to that. A fourth-placed finish is well within their sights.

Jose Mourinho came in, and played a defensive style of football. It saw the Portuguese boss sacked days before the Carabao Cup final. Antonio Conte came in, constantly moaning about a lack of Spurs quality.

Harry Kane’s exit promised more Spursy negativity. but Postecoglou has turned it round, injecting his attacking style of play and to good effect. Spurs players are earning praise, namely, the attackins stars.

Brennan Johnson is enjoynig a very good first season in North London. The Wales star, who is learning French to help speak to some of his Spurs teammates, has had a hand in 12 goals in 26 appearances.

Brennan Johnson starting to show why Tottenham bought him

The £63k-a-week star is improving – two goals and three assists in his last five Premier League outings. He is getting picked ahead of the likes of Richarlison and Deki Kulusevski at the moment. But he’s still young.

Postecoglou is endeavouring to keep Johnson’s feet on the ground, in order to make sure he does not get too carried away. Speaking to his press conference, on Football London, Postecoglou gave his take.

“Don’t know if we’ve made him more lethal. His goalscoring record was pretty decent before. I just think you look at a player differently and it takes time. And in those kind of areas, there is a lot more pressure on new signings because they invariably get measured in terms of outcomes like goals and assists.

“He’s found a bit of confidence and consistency and understanding of how we play and he’s getting the rewards. But he’s still a young guy. There’s definitely a lot more in him, and when you see improvement that encourages us. He’s going to be a super player for us,” Postecoglou said, discussing Johnson.

Johnson’s form is incredible, because of one Tottenham stat

James Maddison has been seen as Tottenham’s best signing and that is probably right, but Johnson has more goal involvements than the England man this term. That’s despite only starting 18 of his 26 games.

As Postecoglou says, he is only going to get better and better. Perhaps, Spurs have found a player that can follow in the footsteps of Son Heung-min and be a long-term signing for the club, at Tottenham.

His £50m price tag might have been questioned last summer but now, it looks like a superb investment over a long-term basis. Johnson needs to finish strong, if Surs are going to topple Villa and finish fourth.
