Taylor Swift better watch out as fans will ‘hold her accountable’ as a billionaire

Taylor Swift has officially become a billionaire, according to Forbes, but Swifties aren’t going to stop watching her closely now her bank balance has spilled over.

The music star joined the list of new billionaires, which Forbes have claimed has been an ‘amazing year for rich people’ but not for many others. The celebrity is one of the 265 newcomers to feature in the big list this year, with the 34-year-old having an estimated $1.1 billion fortune after her record-breaking Eras Tour, concert film, and she’ll likely add to her bank balance with her new album coming out in a number of weeks, The Tortured Poets Department. Although Taylor Swift’s fortune is now at billionaire status, it doesn’t mean Swifties will let her off easy.

Taking to Reddit, Swifties seem to agree despite loving the singer-songwriter and her talents, they don’t appreciate her bank balance.

One wrote: “Just a reminder that billionaires do not get to that status without exploiting other people along the way.

“Billionaires should not exist, no matter who they are! End of conversation!”

Another said: “Exactly, there are no ethical billionaires!”

While a third wrote: “Exactly. It’s immoral to bat an eye just because it’s Taylor. She should be held as accountable as everyone else.”

But others came to her defense. One added: “So people don’t hate her if she has 900 million, but a billion is unacceptable? She has earned it through the tour, and I don’t see any mistreatment or underpayment of staff there. She actually paid her staff very generously.

“Sure she could give more money away but I don’t get acting like she’s suddenly a bad person when her bank account is over a billion. She might use it after the tour who knows, but I don’t believe it will just lie on her bank account unused.

“You can criticize capitalism but making it personal towards Taylor is not smartest move.”

Singer donates a lot of money

Although the Grammy star has a bursting bank balance, she has been charitable.

She recently donated $100,000 to the family of a Kansas City Chiefs fan who was shot dead at a mass shooting during the Super Bowl victory parade in February.

In 2023, she donated $1m to the Tennessee Tornado Relief fund, and handed out $100,000 bonuses to the truck drivers of her Eras Tour and donated to local food banks on The Eras Tour route quietly behind the scenes.

It’s not just big foundations and news headlines, either. Taylor Swift used some of her billionaire status to donate $50,000 to a mother of five’s family who died of Covid in 2021.

If we look back to before she was Spotify’s most streamed artist, she was giving cash away then as well.

In 2011, during her Speak Now tour, she donated 6,000 books to the Reading Public Library in Pennsylvania, and donated the proceeds of her Wildest Dreams video to the African Parks Foundation of America.

There’s a long list of good places she’s sent her well-earned dollars, and gives more reasons she’s different to other billionaires – according to fans.
