It was a promising start for the Volunteers but the Tigers had too much power at the plate as Auburn downed Tennessee 9-5 in the series-opener Friday night from Plainsman Park.
The Vols (24-6, 5-5 SEC) plated three runs in the first and two more in the second but it was the Tigers (18-11, 2-8 SEC), who never trailed at the end of any inning, who poured it on for five runs in the first, three in the second and one more in the sixth inning.
AJ Causey (5-2) is the losing pitcher on the night after allowing eight runs off eight hits in 1.1 innings of work. Carson Myers (2-2) is the winning pitcher after settling thigs down for the Tigers in his 3.2 innings of relief work where he allowed no runs on just three hits.
Game 2 of the series will return to Plainsman Park Saturday afternoon at 4:30, but first, here’s how it all went down on a Friday night for game one.
