'There are now whispers': Journalist shares Ruben Amorim to Liverpool update as Reds clear major hurdle

Liverpool’s bid to appoint a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp seems to be picking up pace as the weeks tick by.

With the Reds going along nicely at the top of the Premier League table, FSG are firmly focussed on who is going to come in and replace Klopp in the summer.

We’ve seen countless names linked with the job already. Xabi Alonso pulling out of the race has also left things wide open, as many had previously expected the Spaniard to be the new manager.

Of course, names like Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann have all been linked with the job.

However, it does seem that one man from those three, Ruben Amorim, is getting more heavily pushed than the rest by the media.

And according to journalist Dean Jones, Liverpool may have cleared a crucial hurdle in their bid to bring Amorim over from Sporting Lisbon.

Liverpool make progress on Ruben Amorim deal

Writing for GiveMeSport, Jones has suggested that the problem with Amorim is his release-clause.

However, the journalist has hinted that Liverpool might have got past that hurdle for now with whispers that a negotiation on that clause could be possible.

“The noises around the Amorim manager pursuit have gone slightly quiet, but that makes sense because, with Amorim now, this needs to become pretty detailed as it is important to understand the workings of how the move opens up. That includes speaking to his camp and Sporting about his contract and the attached clause. If they are going to get him out of that deal, it’s vital to understand how much he is released for and whether it can be negotiated, and there are now whispers that might be possible,” Jones said.

“Regarding other candidates, I would still be open to what is happening with Thiago Motta. Motta has a unique identity, and if things don’t work out with Amorim, I find him an intriguing candidate – even if it is a bit of a risk.”

Amorim has emerged as a strong contender after leading Sporting to the title and producing some of the best attacking football seen in Europe.

Liverpool know they must get the appointment right and should it be Amorim, he’s a name who is likely to go down well with the Anfield crowd from the get go.
