'Such a threat': Sebastien Bassong says £50m player Spurs reportedly want is one 'you need in your starting XI'

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a bright season thus far and will be hoping to secure a spot in the Premier League’s top four over the coming weeks.

Ange Postecoglou has quickly turned things around at Spurs after a dismal eighth-placed finish in the league last season.

Not only has the Tottenham boss improved performances and results, but he has also done well in the transfer window, bringing in great reinforcements.

This summer, we’re likely to see more of the same in the market, with Spurs eager to keep building in order to reach the next level.

One player Tottenham have been linked with has been deemed “the type of player you need in your starting XI” by former Spurs defender Sebastien Bassong.

The player in question is Eberechi Eze, who has been going from strength to strength at Crystal Palace over the past few years.

The Independent reported in February that Tottenham have made the Eagles star one of their top targets as they look to sign another wide forward.

Eze has been a game-changer for Palace since signing from Queens Park Rangers back in 2020. He has made 117 appearances in red and blue, registering 21 goals and 15 assists.

The 25-year-old has also won two caps for England since making his Three Lions debut in June 2023.

What has Sebastien Bassong said about Tottenham target Eberechi Eze?

On Tuesday night, Eze was in Premier League action against Bournemouth, and Bassong liked what he saw from the reported Tottenham target.

“Eberechi Eze is the type of player you need in your starting XI, they just give a boost to the rest of the team from the beginning,” the former Spurs man said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“They pose such a threat to your opponents and you know they can change the game for you within seconds.

“There is a team with Eze and a team without Eze, and they are very different.”

Eze, who is said to be worth around £50million, would no doubt be an inspired signing for Tottenham.

However, Manchester City are apparently in pursuit too, so Spurs will have to work hard if they want to sign him.

That said, Tottenham have beaten Bayern Munich to Radu Dragusin and Barcelona to Lucas Bergvall, so they’ll fancy their chances of triumphing against the likes of Man City.
