‘I want to be’: Gary O’Neil now shares latest update on Wolves future as Fosun receives verdict

Ahead of their clash against West Ham United this afternoon, Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has given fans an update on his future.

Concerns were raised over the size and depth of Wolves‘ squad last summer.

With financial fair play restrictions in place, Fosun had to offload multiple star players from Molineux and the constraints they were put under prevented them from investing in replacements.

Although Gary O’Neil has managed his small squad well throughout this season, it has seriously been put to the test as of late.

Multiple injuries to key first-team players, including Pedro Neto, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Craig Dawson, Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan have created deep holes in his starting XI.

He’s been forced into playing starting academy stars Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome in Premier League fixtures as he’s had no other forwards in reserve.

With Cunha now back in the squad following injury, those concerns have been alleviated somewhat, however, that hasn’t stopped O’Neil from raising his concerns over the lack of investment.

Gary O’Neil working miracles with a threadbare squad

O’Neil cut a frustrated figure after a disappointing January transfer window.

The former Bournemouth manager chose to loan out several players, with Fabio Silva, Sasa Kalajdzic, Joe Hodge and Jonny Castro Otto all departing.

Unfortunately, he only brought in teenager Noha Lemina from Paris Saint Germain in that window, despite his attempts to sign multiple strikers from the Premier League and abroad.

So, his frustrations were heightened when he witnessed his devastating forward trio suffer injuries, as the depth of his small squad was tested to its maximum.

Many believe that if he isn’t backed in the summer transfer window by Fosun, he could walk out of the club just like Julen Lopetegui did last summer.

Fortunately, he’s addressed those concerns by updating fans on his future at Molineux.

Gary O’Neil drops update on Wolves future

While O’Neil has been dealt a difficult hand, it hasn’t changed how he sees his future, despite clubs showing an interest.

He has now outlined his commitment to Wolves with supporters concerned he would walk away similarly to Julen Lopetegui.

Speaking after the draw against Burnley, he said: “It is a difficult one for me to answer, because I don’t I don’t want to talk too much about previous regimes, but I’ve never been one to just give up and quit.

“That hasn’t entered my mind, ever, and it won’t. I want to be a part of what we’re trying to achieve.”

It’s a response that every Wolves supporter wanted to see and outlines his commitment to the club.

Hopefully, O’Neil sticks to his word and stays at Molineux for a long time, although no one can argue against him jumping ship if he isn’t backed by Fosun.
