Molineux in 'awe': One man ran the show for Wolves in the first-half

One Wolves star cannot stop performing in Old Gold with the Molineux faithful in ‘awe’ of his display vs West Ham.

With injuries really stacking up against Wolves in 2024, plenty of first-teamers have had to step up in recent weeks.

This has seen great performances from Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes. However, there is one name on every fan’s lips at the moment.

Rayan Ait-Nouri once again was the star of the show vs West Ham as he helped to put Wolves ahead at half-time.

Gary O’Neil pointed out pre-match that the Algerian may well be the ‘key’ unlocking West Ham and the 22-year-old certainly delivered.

His first-half performance was sensational with Ait-Nouri once again receiving the plaudits for his performance.

Once again, due to injuries, Ait-Nouri was played out of position at Molineux. The Algerian was played in the front three as he aimed to unlock the visitor’s defence.

This he did many times. Ait-Nouri was all over the pitch in the opening 45 minutes, causing the Hammers all sorts of issues. The Algerian even won the penalty which put Wolves in front after Tommy Doyle’s ball in.

After Ait-Nouri produced another bit of magic before half-time, journalist Liam Keen stated the crowd was in ‘awe’ of the youngster due to his magical display.

This was soon followed up by the Athletic’s Steve Madley who credited the Algerian for once again performing for the side.

It wasn’t just the journalists who have been taking to social media to express their delight for the youngster.

Plenty of Wolves fans also showed their appreciation for his performance against West Ham.

Unfortunately, a knock early in the second period prevented him from showing his magic for a full 90 minutes. However, fans from across the globe still took to social media to credit their ‘Algerian Messi’.

As the second half went on, one thing became clear, Wolves are a different team without Ait-Nouri. The hosts just had no attacking intensity which allowed the Hammers to do as they pleased.

In the first half, Ait-Nouri’s performance was reminiscent of the one against Fulham where he took the game by the scruff of the neck to lead Wolves to a victory.

Yet, as soon as he went off, it seemed as if all of the host’s desire to win the game had diminished.

With the club possessing so few attacking options, Wolves cannot afford to let arguably their most prized asset leave. Fosun will not be able to find any player with so much raw talent anywhere else.

The Algerian is still only 22 years old; that combined with his versatility makes him one of the most valuable players at the club and one Wolves should build a team around.
