'How?': Michael Brown cannot believe what he saw happen in Aston Villa v Brentford today

Aston Villa and Brentford played out an eventful 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon with Ollie Watkins at the double against his old side.

The 28-year-old netted in the 80th minute to salvage a point for the hosts after Thomas Frank’s men had produced a rapid second-half turnaround.

Goals from Mathias Jørgensen, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa turned the game on its head before Villa’s talisman rescued what could be an important point.

Talking on BBC Sport’s Final Score, Michael Brown couldn’t believe what he witnessed at Villa Park.

It was undoubtedly a manic couple of minutes early in the second period. Whatever Frank said to his players had the desired effect.

Brown hailed the away side’s momentum after a relatively insipid first-half performance.

“How do games change so quickly? It just happens, you get momentum, you get into key areas and you get the goals,” he told Final Score. “Lovely first touch cross from Bryan Mbeumo to guide the ball across the box and Yoane Wissa is there at the back post to tap home.”

How damaging will this result be to Aston Villa’s Champions League hopes?

Unai Emery will be acutely aware of how important this fixture was; unfortunately, a win was required.

Tottenham are now firmly in the driving seat when it comes to securing fourth spot. Ange Postecoglou’s side face Nottingham Forest on Sunday and now hold two games in hand.

A comprehensive win over Forest will see Spurs jump into the top four on Sunday evening. However, Villa’s Champions League hopes are still very much alive.

Due to England’s strong European coefficient, there’s every chance of fifth spot being handed the opportunity to feature in next season’s elite competition.

Nevertheless, performances will have to improve heading into the final stretch, mainly how games are managed.
