Nottingham Forest 'brute' now the best in the Premier League in one attacking aspect

It’s been a whirlwind 18 months for Chris Wood playing for Nottingham Forest. Now, he’s starting to showcase exactly what he’s capable of and some remarkable statistics have emerged.

It was goal number 12 for Wood as Forest beat Fulham 3-1 at the City Ground on Tuesday night. His speculative long-range effort flew past Bernd Leno and the striker simply threw his hands in the air as if to say, ‘Yes, me again!’

After the game on Tuesday,Steve Hodge raved about Wood for his Forest performance – citing the different types of goals he keeps scoring as a pleasing aspect of his game and calling him a ‘brute’.

Wood has been in tremendous form all season for Forest. With Taiwo Awoniyi barely featuring due to a number of injuries, someone has had to step up to the plate this season.

Wit Awoniyi still nursing an injury and out of the Forest side, Wood will get the chance to keep his shirt. Now, some statistics have emerged that see the New Zealand striker sit top of any other player currently operating in the Premier League.

Chris Wood top of the Premier League for one statistic

Well, this is quite something to see Wood – written off by many Forest fans – sitting pretty ahead of several top strikers when it comes to one aspect of his game.

The statistics come from FBRef who compile a number of statistics for teams and players, considering a number of different metrics.

Wood currently sits top of the pile for Premier League players when it comes to the percentage of shots that he gets on target when he plays for Forest.

The 32-year-old talisman has managed to get 60.7% of the 28 shots that he’s had on target this season, scoring 11 goals from just 17 shots on target.

Wood sits ahead of Evan Ferguson who has 60.6% of his shots on target. Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is third on 60% exactly.

Wood can help Forest stay in the Premier League and he deserves to stay

It’s been a hot topic of discussion but the future of Wood at Forest now looks to have become clearer in the last few days.

John Percy from The Telegraph has claimed that Wood is under contract next season. As a result, that could mean that Forest don’t need to worry about a striker.

Right now, the player is helping the Reds remain as a Premier League club for another season. Indeed, very few would have predicted 11 league goals for him this season.

Wood’s form is a testament to him as a player – and as a person – given that he’s come back from a poor 2022/23 with a point to prove.

He’s returned fitter, stronger and ultimately, he’s silenced his critics. Based on those elements, he deserves a chance to stay at the club and hopefully, Forest utilise him next season too.
