'Some player you': Phil Foden left amazed by £25k-a-week Man City teammate against Crystal Palace

Manchester City recorded another win in the Premier League on Saturday, beating Crystal Palace in the early kick-off – and one player caught the eye of Phil Foden.

Pep Guardiola‘s side built on their 4-1 win over Aston Villa in midweek, running out 4-2 winners over the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

Kevin De Bruyne grabbed two goals for City, opening the scoring with a rocket from the left side.

Rico Lewis also grabbed himself a goal – which was only his third for the first-team. Erling Haaland also got on the scoresheet after a month-long drought in the competition.

It was a comfortable win for City and important to send another message after the win over Villa.

Pep was able to rest Phil Foden yesterday which was another positive – and City’s man of the moment was left impressed by one player in particular yesterday…

Yesterday, Lewis started again for City.

It was his second in a row, after he got the nod against Aston Villa.

Lewis is getting a run in the team at the moment, with Kyle Walker having picked up an injury recently on England duty, and Nathan Ake also limping out of the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

It is a good opportunity for the youngster who had not played a single minute in the Premier League since January 31 against Burnley.

Yesterday he again featured on the right of the defence, and offered support in midfield. Manuel Akanji played on the left side and held the width.

As was the case against Villa, it was a really assured performance from Lewis, and he showed great composure in the box when the ball dropped to him for his goal.

To have come into the team having not played too much and shown this kind of level is a real testament to his character and ability, and his performance yesterday led to praise from Phil Foden on Instagram.

Lewis posted: “Let’s gooo!! What a great team result. Away fans were class as usual.”

To which Foden replied, ‘Some player you’ along with a fire emoji.

After the game, Guardiola also hailed Lewis for his display and praised his sense of goal.

Foden spot on about Lewis

This was another tremendous performance from Lewis, who continues to prove that he can mix it in a team filled with world-class players.

The £25,000-a-week youngster, still only 19, is just amazing to watch in those pockets of space in midfield. His intelligence to be able to operate there is remarkable. You would think that someone of his stature and physical build would struggle, but that simply has never been the case.

Foden’s remark on Instagram will be something many City fans agree with.

Lewis is some player already, and it is so exciting to think about the kind of levels he could reach in a few years’ time.
