'Nightmare': Ian Wright left flabbergasted after what he saw in Wolves 1-2 West Ham

Wolves fans were left fuming once again yesterday as VAR cost the team a point in the Premier League – and pundit Ian Wright was left absolutely stunned on Match of the Day.

Wolves were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United at Molineux, suffering a real blow to their hopes of securing European football.

Wolves took the lead in the first-half via the penalty spot, with Pablo Sarabia stepping up.

Having been superb in the first-half, Wanderers were then poor in the second and allowed West Ham back into the game.

A Max Kilman handball in the area led to a penalty for the visitors, which was scored by Lucas Paqueta, before James Ward-Prowse’s corner sailed all the way in.

Right at the death, Wolves thought they’d found an equaliser when Kilman scored a header. But the goal was chalked off, after Tawanda Chirewa was deemed to be interfering with play as he was stood in front of Lukasz Fabianski.

This decision has sparked outrage, with Ian Wright sharing in Wolves’ fans frustrations…

Wolves fell way short in the second-half yesterday which was frustrating, but the decision at the end was a complete joke.

After the game, Gary O’Neil slammed the call, labelling it as a ‘terrible terrible decision’.

Referee Tony Harrington initially awarded the goal. But VAR then instructed him to take a second look via the pitchside monitor.

After seeing it again, he then disallowed Kilman’s goal, which would have given Wolves a point.

The incident was analysed on Match of the Day last night, and Ian Wright could not believe what he was seeing.

He said: “He can move! He’s not impeding him to stop him moving. I can’t tell you how gutted I am for Gary O’Neil and Wolves in that one.

“It’s a tough one. I don’t know what to say to Wolves and Gary O’Neil. I apologise to them, or something! It’s just like, a nightmare for you guys.”

A total disgrace

This was another absolutely farcical decision that has cost Wolves points in the Premier League.

It had been a while since Wanderers were stung by VAR and supporters had started to believe that the team’s luck was turning.

But we are here again, and this latest decision is just ridiculous.

Kilman’s header found the corner of the net and Fabianski was never, ever getting to the ball. So how was Chirewa possibly interfering with playing that moment?

Yes, he was in an offside position. But common sense just has to prevail here.
