'It made me want to': Jack Grealish shares what has genuinely driven him to want to win the treble again now

Jack Grealish has admitted that there is something that has led him to achieve an unprecedented double treble with Manchester City this season.

After winning the treble last season, it would not come as a surprise if Grealish and Co. did not have the same fire in their bellies coming into the 2023/2024 campaign.

Only eight teams in the history of football have managed to do so.

Perhaps apart from winning the World Cup, there might be no bigger achievement in the game.

In terms of the difficulty of the objective as well, many might argue that completing a treble trumps winning the World Cup.

As a result, it is easier said than done to just be fired up after being a part of the team that does so.

Even if the player in question plays for a winning machine like City.

It would not be a stretch to suggest that Manchester City might not win a treble for decades after doing so last year.

Jack Grealish names what has motivated him to win a double treble

Last season, after the Sky Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola went on an infamous rant as he blasted his players for their lack of desire to win the Premier League [via talkSPORT].

Thankfully for Guardiola, it seems like he had lit a fire within his players by publicly faulting them for their lack of drive, after having won two league titles in a row at the time.

Manchester City went out to sort out their unconvincing displays and stunned the world as they went on to win the treble in style.

Grealish, alongside Haaland, De Bruyne, Rodri, Stones and Ake was one of the many players to lead his time to a historic achievement.

City have the chance to do so again, even though it seems hard to discount Liverpool as the favourites to win the Premier League for the first time in four years.

But Manchester City fans will be delighted to discover that after watching Netflix’s Together: Treble Winners documentary, Jack Grealish is driven to win the treble again.

“For me personally to move to City and play Champions League football and to play against Real Madrid in your home stadium, have your family and friends there, everyone in the world watching, I think it is so, so special. These are the moments you live for”, he initially said [via Manchester Evening News].

Grealish continued, “I finished the Netflix documentary last night and the last episode especially made me a bit emotional. It made me want to go and do it again and made me think, I know it’s a bit deep, but at the end of the day, this is the youngest I’m ever going to be so to try and enjoy the moment because I’m not going to be playing Champions League for the rest of my life.”

“It is difficult. You need that hunger. Sometimes you do sit there and think how can you ever top last year? Will any happiness ever come close to that?”

“Sometimes you have to think if you do it again, go one step ahead or win something else, then maybe that would top it.”

Jack Grealish has also stated that, unlike last season when he lifted the treble, he has “struggled” at times internally.

The best version of Jack Grealish could emerge now

But now that Grealish is determined to climb the mountain of winning on all three fronts, the best version of him could emerge, in our view.

For even top players like Jack Grealish, winning a treble is a herculean task and what they must ensure is they are as hungry as possible to be ready for the challenge.

City’s documentary has inspired the club’s number 10, which should be music to Guardiola’s ears as he must be counting on him to deliver until the end of the season.

With how sensational a player Jack Grealish is, a refreshed mentality could mean he has his sights set on playing his best possible football and doing everything he can to win the treble again.

Manchester City need all their players to share Grealish’s mindset to be able to repeat their feat from the previous campaign.
