Cameron Carter-Vickers explains why Celtic are still feeling positive after Ibrox stalemate

Celtic took a point from Ibrox earlier today in a match that hasn’t left their Scottish Premiership title hopes any worse off than before kick-off.

Brendan Rodgers’ men took a deserved two-goal lead after Daizen Maeda’s freak opener was followed up by a Matt O’Riley penalty ten minutes before half-time.

James Tavernier pulled one back from the spot after Fabio Silva was awarded a penalty that has sparked debate post-match before Abdallah Sima levelled with a deflected strike.

Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah fired the visitors back in front with a clinical strike past Jack Butland, aided by Paulo Bernardo’s sharp thinking and executed pass in the build-up.

In stoppage time, Rabbi Matondo salvaged a draw for the hosts, meaning the bragging rights remain untouched until we find out when Celtic will face Rangers in the post-split fixtures at Parkhead.

Speaking to the media, Rodgers commended his players for leaving their title destiny in their own hands despite being disappointed at the result by his own admission, stating: “We’re disappointed not to win, but to leave here with it all in our hands is what we wanted – for that, I’m really proud.”

It is hard to know how to feel about today’s result based on immediate reaction, though the point we gained could prove to be a valuable one come the end of the season.

Cameron Carter-Vickers says Celtic still in a positive mind frame

Cameron Carter-Vickers played the entire match at Ibrox and will undoubtedly feel disappointed that Celtic couldn’t see three points over the line.

Nevertheless, the United States international has revealed a strong internal belief exists within the dressing room that the Bhoys still have a fighting chance of fulfilling their aspirations this season.

He stated live on Sky Sports: “The situation in the table hasn’t changed with that result, I think even if we won that game today, we would’ve probably still had to win our next six or seven games to do what we want to do this season, so nothing has changed from our point of view.”

In strange circumstances, it remains pretty much as you were in the Scottish Premiership title race despite a frantic clash that has left Celtic top of the table by a solitary point.

Looking ahead, St Mirren lay in wait next at Parkhead, where we will have a chance to remain top with a victory, at the very least.
