Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have an ‘outstanding’ player who makes an impact every time

Jamie Carragher was really impressed by one Liverpool player against Manchester United today.

There is no denying the result didn’t quite go Liverpool’s way this afternoon. The Reds created plenty of chances in the first-half but just couldn’t put them away.

Dominik Szoboszlai squandered a big opportunity, although it was a difficult finish to execute with the ball just coming behind him.

Liverpool went forward time and time again to attack United, but Andre Onana in goal stood firm to the Reds relentless onslaught.

In the second-half, the tide of the game changed with Jarell Quansah’s error. The substitution came at a poor timing as well. Curtis Jones, who had just come on switched off and allowed Kobe Mainoo to score for United.

But in the end, the Reds found their way back, and much of that was thanks to the brilliant impact one 21-year-old made.

Jamie Carragher impressed by one Liverpool player on commentary

There were a lot of poor individual performances by Liverpool today. The Reds made the wrong decisions far too often.

Although, there is no one to blame. It was a collective effort, and Liverpool’s stars will know they have to do much better than what they delivered today.

There were a few bright sparks though. Including yet another really promising performance by Harvey Elliott.

The youngster showed real effort going forward and once again made the difference for Liverpool when it really mattered.

He won a decisive penalty which has ensured Liverpool are still level on points with Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ commentary, Jamie Carragher was really impressed by Elliott as well, and said he was someone who looks like he could make an impact every time he is on the pitch.

“Harvey Elliott has been outstanding again from the bench,” Carragher said. “Everytime he gets the ball it looks like he can create something.”

In this game, Elliott won all his duels as per Fotmob, completed 95% of his passes and won that decisive penalty for Liverpool.

Winning that penalty counts as another goal contribution for him, which means he now has made 11 for Liverpool this season.

All together, he has 22 goal contributions for club and country, which is an incredible return from the youngster. He is absolutely in brilliant form at the moment.
