'He's got everything': Jamie Redknapp blown away by £34m Spurs player after seeing him v Nott'm Forest today

Tottenham cruised to another important win this afternoon as they saw off Nottingham Forest at home to continue their top four push and Jamie Redknapp believes one player is like Virgil van Dijk.

Ange Postecoglou continually plays down talk of the Champions League places but today’s result put them back into the top four, above Aston Villa.

An own goal and then strikes from Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro ensured Tottenham got over the line and left Forest still in relegation trouble.

Of course, for Tottenham to get over the line, it needed some big performances.

And while he took plaudits for getting on the scoresheet, defender Micky van de Ven was once again in imperious form at the back.

And speaking to Sky Sports about the Dutchman after the game today, former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Van de Ven can be as good as Virgil van Dijk.

Micky van de Ven can be as good as Virgil van Dijk

Speaking alongside Roy Keane, Redknapp was waxing lyrical about what he’s seen from Ven de Ven.

And in a huge compliment to the £34m%20with%20add%2Dons.) summer signing, Redknapp suggested Van de Ven can go on to emulate his international teammate, Virgil van Dijk.

“Arsenal fans look at Saliba who is a fantastic young defender as well but I think this guy is equally as good, I think he’s got everything going for him. If he stays injury free, there’s no reason why he can’t almost emulate what Virgil van Dijk’s done.

“When Van Dijk was this age he wasn’t putting in these sorts of performances. As long as he doesn’t get too many injuries cos that can affect the hamstrings and everything but he’s a top player, he really is,” Redknapp said.

Of course, at just 22, time is on the side of Van de Ven here.

One good point made by Redknapp is the injuries.

Van de Ven has already had one bad hamstring problem and then another niggle since. Over time, these things can really play a part with quick players, so he’ll need an element of luck as well.

But, as Redknapp says here, the sky is the limit really for Van de Ven now and he could well be one of the signings of the entire season.
